ATLANTA — A 16-year-old is dead after a shooting at a northwest Atlanta apartment complex Wednesday, according to the police department.
The teen, Maurice Weems, was initially identified as an adult man, but in an updated statement early Thursday morning, his age was clarified as 16.
Atlanta Police said the shooting happened at 1634 Hollywood Road NW, which is the address of the Reserve at Hollywood Apartments. The apartment complex is near Springfield Missionary Baptist Church and down the road from Scott Elementary School in Atlanta's Scott Crossing neighborhood.
When officers arrived on the scene, the police department said they found the teen with gunshot wounds. Investigators said he had been taken to the hospital for medical treatment but has since died from his injures.
Police have not released any other details, including whether there is a possible suspect.
11Alive SkyTracker flew over the scene, where crime scene tape and at least half a dozen APD patrol cars were seen responding.
