GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Newly released bodycam video is providing an inside look into the moments that led up to a shooting at the Gwinnett County Jail back on October 7.
11Alive previously reported on the incident back in October.
Authorities say the man, Emmanuel Patrick Bearden, arrived at the jail with his young daughter, himself wearing body armor. Deputies attempted to ask why he was at the jail as he went through security. However, the man instead becomes hostile and agitated.
When the Bearden returned to his vehicle, he began pulling out weapons and, despite receiving verbal commands from authorities, started to fire at them.
That's when Gwinnett County deputies shot back, hitting Bearden. The sheriff's office noted that his daughter was not harmed.
The video also shows deputies taking quick action to protect bystanders who happen to be on the scene.
Bearden is facing aggravated assault on a law enforcement office charges, and additional charges are expected, according to the GBI.
