FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A Monroe County teen has been charged with murder in a fatal fire that killed two people.
The sheriff's office said Candace Walton has been charged with arson, theft by taking and two counts of murder. The charges come after a fire at a home off Old Zebulon Road around 3:30 a.m. Thursday that killed two.
The victims are believed to be Walton's 21-year-old brother with special needs and another unidentified person who may be Walton's mother, according to WMAZ.
When authorities arrived to the house fire early Thursday, they found the house fully engulfed in flames. After the flames were put out, they found the bodies of a male and female.
Authorities initially believed the two victims to be Walton and her brother, Gerald. They later said, however, that information uncovered during the investigation showed that the body of the female victim had been misidentified and it was likely not Walton's.
Around the same time, authorities issued an alert that the siblings' mother, Tasha Vandiver, and her Chevy Malibu were missing.
The car was later found and stopped by U.S. Marshals in McCracken County, Kentucky with Walton behind the wheel.
At this time, the identities of the bodies have still not been confirmed. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is expected to make the positive identification.
