Ex-Cobb officer accused of on-duty sexual assault turns himself in

Authorities secured an arrest warrant for Andres Alcaraz, Monday, for the alleged crime.

A former Cobb County police officer has turned himself in after authorities said he sexually assaulted a woman while on duty is in custody.

Authorities secured an arrest warrant for Andres Alcaraz on Monday for the alleged crime that happened after midnight on May 17.

The criminal warrant said Alcaraz allegedly detained the victim for questioning for an unspecified reason. The former officer then reportedly put her in the back of his patrol car, drove them to South Cobb Drive and proceeded to assault her while still in uniform, according to the warrant.

According to Cobb County Police, the victim came forward about a week ago and spoke to another officer during an unrelated incident and reported the assault. Cobb Police said they began an internal investigation shortly after that.
