Victim in deadly Gwinnett shooting identified as 16-year-old Norcross boy

Officers responded around 4 p.m. on Nov. 8 and located the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The victim in a deadly shooting last week in Gwinnett County has been identified as a 16-year-old Norcross boy.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said Tuesday that Jose Yahir Batz was killed in the incident last week on Windsor Woods Lane.

One person was detained in the shooting at an apartment complex last Friday evening.

Police said the shooting happened at 2400 Windsor Woods Lane, which, according to Google Maps, appears to be near the Huntington Ridge Apartments. 

Officers responded around 4 p.m. and located the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. 

"Preliminary details indicate that at least two males were involved in a type of altercation that led to gunshots being fired," officers said in a news release. "Detectives have one male detained at this time."

Cash was located near the victim, which police said possibly indicates a transaction had taken place. Gwinnett Police said homicide investigators are canvassing the area and conducting interviews about what happened. 

11Alive SkyTracker flew over the scene where there appeared to be caution tape at the complex. Several police patrol cars were also surrounding the scene.
