GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A 20-year-old suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of a man in Gwinnett County, police said Tuesday morning.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, was shot and killed in the wooded area behind a gas station on Jimmy Carter Blvd. late Sunday night. On Tuesday police announced the arrest of 20-year-old Ernesto Garcia-Bailon; his charges include malice murder (the most serious murder charge in Georgia), felony murder and aggravated assault.
The gas station's surveillance camera recorded graphic footage of the killing, which 11Alive is not publishing.
The video showed the moments leading up to the shooting. A man, who appears to be the victim, can be seen walking up to someone when another person who cannot be seen and appears to be behind a tree fires shots.
The apparent victim then falls to the ground. The alleged shooter appears to emerge from behind the tree, firing more shots at the apparent victim.
The call for a person shot came in just after 9 p.m., and responding officers reported finding the victim shot multiple times. Authorities said officers tried lifesaving measures, but the victim did not survive.
Police are asking the public to contact its department at 770-513-5300. Those who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or click here.
