ELBERT COUNTY, Ga. — Loved ones of a teen killed when gunfire erupted at a homecoming afterparty have started an online fundraiser to help cover burial expenses.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said 15-year-old Bry'Shun Jordan died from his injuries in the shooting that happened on Oct. 12 around 11:50 p.m. in Elbert County. Seven others were hurt. The GBI announced Friday it charged 18-year-old Jarquavious Demetrious Scott, of Anderson, South Carolina, with murder.

As Scott awaits extradition to Georgia, Jordan's loved ones are turning to the community for help.

"Unfortunately, the insurance policy has delayed the funeral payout, which could take 6-8 weeks," an online fundraiser indicates.

They are hoping to cover his burial expenses without further delays, adding that what happened to the teen was "senseless."

"Bry’shun was deeply loved by his community and known as the 'gentle giant' to many of his teachers. His smile could light up any room," the fundraising campaign states.

Jordan attended Hart Academy, according to Hart County Schools, who released a statement after he died.

"We are deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Bry'Shun Jordan" the statement said.

Elbert County Emergency Services said its agency, along with the Elbert County Sheriff's Office and Elbert County EMS, responded to the shooting near 7 Grand nightclub on Evergreen Drive in reference to multiple people shot.

Elberton Mayor Daniel Graves released a statement on social media, saying the community's heart is broken behind this crime.

"To the family of young Bry’Shun Jordan, there are no words. Our condolences on a life stolen.  To the survivors, we praise God your life was spared," Graves said.

Anyone who wants to donate to the online fundraiser can do so here.
