Persons of interest in shooting near GSU | What we've learned from police

The shooting happened Sunday near a gas station off John Wesley Dobbs Avenue and Piedmont Avenue known for attracting trouble.

ATLANTA — Atlanta Police have released images of three persons of interest in a shooting that happened near Georgia State University's campus last weekend, leaving four people wounded--two of them were students.

The shooting happened early Sunday near the RaceTrac gas station off John Wesley Dobbs Avenue and Piedmont Avenue -- a location known for attracting trouble.

On Thursday, police released security camera video of three persons of interest, who are all believed to be armed.

In the aftermath of the shooting, students have taken extra precautions and sought reassurance from campus authorities.

"I always pull out my exit points in case something pops off, and I never really go out at night by myself," student Mehki Lawrence said just days after the shooting.

According to police, the Sunday shooting stemmed from a dispute between two groups and escalated into an exchange of gunfire.

Police said the two students and one of the other victims -- one man and two women -- were stable after taking themselves to the hospital. But police said the fourth victim, a woman, was transported in critical condition and is still critical.

Sunday's gunfire comes roughly six months after a shooting in April in which another student was shot. A similar incident happened last December, resulting in a fatality. All the incidents happened at or near that RaceTrac gas station.

Atlanta police are urging people who might know who the possible suspects are to contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta 404-577-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous and possibly qualify for a reward of up to $2,000.
