Officer shoots armed man at Roswell sports bar

What We Know:

  • A 34-year-old man was shot by police in Roswell after pointing a gun at sports bar patrons and officers.
  • Calls came in around 1 a.m. on March 23 from Mazzy's Sports Bar and Grill, reporting an unruly patron with a handgun.
  • When officers arrived, the man refused to drop his gun and aimed it at them, leading to one officer shooting him.
  • Immediate medical aid was provided, and the suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
  • The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was called to investigate the shooting.

Man dead, shot in the head after firing at Snellville officers on Saturday

What We Know:

  • A man died in a police-involved shooting in Snellville on Saturday morning.
  • The incident began around 4 a.m. during a traffic stop on US 78/West Main Street at Fountain Drive, near Piedmont Eastside Medical Center's south campus.
  • Police informed the driver, 36-year-old Rashawn Johnson, that he was under arrest during the stop, prompting the driver to open the door and present a handgun, ultimately pointing it at his own head.
  • Johnson shot his gun, prompting officers to shoot, too. Johnson was shot in the head and died at the scene. It's unsure if he was killed by his own gunfire or officers' gunfire.
  • The man was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.
  • The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating.

High-speed chase ends in shooting shuts down I-20 in Haralson County

What We Know:

  • Interstate 20 in Haralson County is back open after being completely closed following a high-speed chase that escalated into a shooting involving deputies and officers.
  • The incident occurred around 4 a.m. when the Haralson County Sheriff's Office was notified of a high-speed chase approaching Georgia from near the Alabama state lines.
  • Deputies joined the pursuit on I-20 near Veterans Memorial Highway/State Route 100.
  • Upon entering Georgia, the pursued vehicle spun out, and the driver began firing at authorities. Deputies and officers returned fire.
  • Authorities have confirmed that no deputies or officers were injured, and there is no threat to public safety.
  • The reason for the initial chase and whether the driver sustained injuries from the gunfire remain unknown.
  • The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is en route to investigate the incident
