APS superintendent finalist to hold another town hall tonight

Dr. Bryan Johnson will engage with district employees and community members ahead of the Board of Education vote on the superintendent position.

ATLANTA — Dr. Bryan Johnson, the sole finalist for the position of Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent, will hold a second town hall tonight to engage with district employees and community members. The meeting will be from 6-7 p.m. at Sutton Middle School at 2875 Northside Drive.

In a previous town hall, he addressed topics like district budget, literacy and his plans for the future.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Danielle Battle will transition from her role by the end of August following the Board of Education vote on July 8, according to an email from the district. Johnson was one of three initial finalists named in mid-June and was announced as the sole finalist about a week later.

The BOE is working to follow Georgia law, which mandates a minimum of 14 days for public input before finalizing an agreement with a new superintendent, which is why Johnson is still labeled as a finalist ahead of a formal BOE vote.
