GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Forbes Magazine recently recognized Gwinnett County Public Schools as one of the top employers for women.
Gwinnett County Public Schools ranks number 19 overall. It is one of two K-12 school districts on the Forbes list and the only company in the state of Georgia that ranks in the top 20.
"When you look at our 23,000 employees, almost 70 percent of them are female," Executive Director of Communications Sloan Roach said.
"To be honored as a great employer is something that is pretty remarkable. Even though we've been recognized, we need to continue to raise the bar."
Some Gwinnett County teachers agree and think this honor will continue to help improve the district.
"It's empowering," Gwinnett County teacher Deborah Westbrook said.
"I see that teachers are getting equal pay. I see that women are getting recognized with equal pay. I see positive outlooks for the community."
Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to identify companies liked most by female workers, according to their website.
60,000 Americans, 40,000 of which were women, were surveyed to compile this list.
This is the second year in a row that Gwinnett County has made the Forbes "America's Best Employers for Women" list.
