Coronavirus cases in Georgia rise to 17,841, deaths to 677
Georgia is now reporting 17,841 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 677 deaths. Of the total who have gotten confirmed cases of the virus, 3,447 - or about 19.32 percent - have been hospitalized.
Fulton County leads in the total number of cases with 2,065 confirmed. Dougherty County in southwest Georgia, however, continues to lead in deaths with 91. DeKalb County, meanwhile, is just one case away from having the second largest number of confirmed cases in Georgia at 1,408 - just behind Dougherty's 1,409.

Confirmed COVID-19 cases at 230 nursing homes, facilities across Georgia
According to a newly-updated Ga. Dept. of Community Health report, there are confirmed COVID-19 cases at 230 nursing and personal care facilities across the state.
Gov. Brian Kemp has directed the Georgia National Guard to visit all long-term care facilities in the state to assess their condition and to establish a means of ensuring those facilities are free of COVID-19.
Last Monday, Kemp said he was directing the National Guard to use 60 teams to sanitize the facilities around the state.
More than 17,600 confirmed cases reported with 673 deaths Saturday afternoon
On Saturday, the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the state of Georgia had grown to over 17,600, with 673 deaths reported, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
The largest number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 was in Fulton County, with 2,054, and 74 deaths.
The most notable hot spot in the state continues in the Albany area. It is the county seat of Dougherty County, where 1,406 cases have been reported along with 91 deaths.
DeKalb, Cobb and Gwinnett counties each have reported more than 1,000 cases each -- with 1,396; 1,100 and 1,050, respectively.
There are a total of 3,420 people hospitalized across the state with confirmed cases of COVID-19, or 19.36 percent of the total number of cases.

Kennesaw city officials forced to lay-off 23 employees by pandemic's effects
The city of Kennesaw has been forced to temporarily lay off 23 staffers as a result of the effects of the coronavirus on the city.
City officials confirmed to 11Alive on Saturday morning that the layoffs occurred on Friday and are the result of reduced tax revenues.
Those affected are working in departments that have been shut down as a result of the pandemic, including the city museums, Smith-Gilbert Gardens, parks and recreation departments and the city's courts.
Coweta County Schools set alternative graduation details
The Coweta County Schools have announced alternative plans for honoring graduates from their three high schools.
The schools plan a "Virtual Honors Night" and "Virtual Graduation Night" for each school, with a presentation streamed online and on social media in May, with a formal live graduation ceremony for each school in late July, as circumstances allow.
The virtual honors nights are: Newnan High School, Thursday, May 7; Northgate High School, Monday, May 18; East Coweta High School, Tuesday, May 19.
Virtual graduations will be held on the nights the original graduation ceremonies were scheduled: Northgate High School, Thursday, May 21; Newnan High School, Friday, May 22; East Coweta High School, Saturday, May 23.
Formal ceremonies for 2020 graduates and their families will be held at school campuses as circumstances allow: Northgate High School: Wednesday, July 29; Newnan High School, Thursday, July 30; East Coweta High School, Friday, July 31.
Specific details for the ceremonies will follow as the dates come closer.
More than 17,400 confirmed cases reported with 668 deaths
The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the state of Georgia has now reached 17,432 with 668 deaths reported, according to the latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
Graphs provided by the department appear to show a bend in the curve of cases, suggesting the rate of daily infections is beginning to slow, and may be on a downward trend.
Fulton County has now recorded more than 2,000 cases of COVID-19 within the county, with 74 deaths reported. Dougherty County follows with the second-highest number of cases at 1,385, but has recorded 91 deaths.
DeKalb, Cobb and Gwinnett counties are the only other Georgia counties with more than 1,000 cases if the virus.
