STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — While dealing with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, it becomes a bit challenging to see the sweeter side of life right now. A local group of Girl Scouts is working to change that.
The ladies of Troop 19822 in Stockbridge were disappointed when this year's cookie sales had to be suspended due to the need for social distancing.
Not wanting all of those cookies to go to waste, they started a GoFundMe for people to donate the cost of a box of cookies to first responders in the area.
Those boxes will then be delivered to those on the front lines helping the community combat the COVID-19 outbreak.
"It's a challenging time right now for all of us, so we would like to hopefully make a smile on someone's face or make someone's day," said troop leader Daphne Johnson. "We understand the first responders are going through a challenging time as well."
Johnson said she was very proud of the girls because the idea was all theirs.
"They were disappointed that cookie season ended," she said. "They were trying to come up with something to do."
The troop has a list of first responder groups that they would like to donate the cookies to. They said they plan to evenly distribute them as they receive donations.
