MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia officials have announced the construction of a quarantine space in Monroe County that will be used for people who test positive for coronavirus and are unable to self-isolate.
The site is under construction on the Georgia Public Safety Training Center campus, according to a news release from Gov. Brian Kemp's office.
There will be 20 temporary housing units.
"This is one of many measures that we're taking to prepare for any scenario," said Governor Kemp. "I appreciate the hard work of GEMA, DPH, and Monroe County officials to protect the health and safety of all Georgians."
There are no patients at the facility yet. Officials said precautions will be taken when moving and placing individuals at the facility.
Monroe County is working with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and GPSTC officials to make sure the facility will meet the needs of potential patients while protecting the health and safety of residents in the county.

So far in Georgia, there have been 42 cases of the virus reported, according to DPH's website. Only one death has been reported.
