GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — One person is dead, and several others were injured after a Wednesday evening crash in Lawrenceville, police said.
According to the Lawrenceville Police Department, officers were sent to the area of Buford Drive at Hurricane Shoals Road at 6 p.m. the day before Thanksgiving after receiving multiple calls about a multi-vehicle crash. The incident prompted all northbound and southbound lanes in that area on State Route 20 to be blocked for hours.
On Thursday, police said an investigation revealed that a vehicle heading north on Buford Drive crossed over into the southbound lanes -- hitting a Nissan Rogue head-on.
The driver of the Nissan Rogue died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the other vehicle, along with several other passengers, were sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Authorities said that alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor to this crash and that charges are forthcoming. The police have not yet released the names of anyone involved in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing. Lawrenceville Police is asking anyone who might have witnessed the crash or have any other information to contact AIU Investigator Coble at 770-670-5135 or by emailing TCoble@LawrencevillePD.com.
