Three 18-year-olds killed in Alpharetta crash that shut down road for hours, medical examiner says

Alpharetta authorities said there were five people in the car; three victims have died.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Another person who was hurt in a single-vehicle crash in Alpharetta Tuesday night has died, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office.

A medical examiner investigator said 18-year-old Anvi Sharma was pronounced dead on Wednesday. Two other 18-year-olds, Aryan Joshi and Sriya Avasarala, also died from their injuries.

In a letter to parents, students and staff, the principal of Alpharetta High said Joshi was a senior at the school. The letter also shared resources to help students with grief.

Both Avasarala and Arma had just finished up their freshman years at the University of Georgia. The university sent out the following statement Wednesday night:

"The University of Georgia community mourns the lives lost in this tragic accident. Our deepest condolences go out to their families and loved ones as they navigate this difficult time. We hope their memories bring comfort and strength to all who knew them."

The crash happened on Westside Parkway between Hembree Road and Maxwell Road. The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety said both northbound and southbound lanes of Westside Parkway between the two roads were closed for hours as officers investigated the scene.

Authorities said the investigation revealed that there were five people inside of the car. The others who were hurt were taken to the hospital. Their conditions at this time are unknown.

On Wednesday evening, Alpharetta Police said the driver of the vehicle lost control of the car, causing it to leave the roadway into a tree line where it flipped upside down. Police said that speed may have been a factor in the wreck.
