ATLANTA — Editor's note: The above video is from a previous report from when the station closed.
MARTA’s Brookhaven rail station is set to reopen this weekend following a successful six-week construction project.
Starting Saturday, Nov. 16, all rail and bus services at Brookhaven will resume normal operations. The station closed on Oct. 7 to replace aging pavers on the train platform, and the work was completed ahead of schedule.
The project included demolishing old flooring, installing new tiles, tactile warning strips, and expansion joint benches, and pressure washing and sealing concrete with a graffiti-resistant coating, according to a release.
The renovation is part of the Transit Authority's $1 billion Station Rehabilitation Program, which aims to improve safety and aesthetics at 38 rail stations.
The closure, which temporarily rerouted Gold Line trains past Brookhaven, significantly expedited the project timeline. MARTA estimates the strategy saved nearly two years of construction and cut costs by $9 million.
Additional improvements are also planned for the station, including upgrades to the concourse, canopy, and signage, as well as the installation of SMART restrooms designed to enhance cleanliness and safety.
The full renovation is slated to be completed by fiscal year 2027 at a total cost of $13 million.
