Buckhead shooting outside Gold Room club leaves one seriously injured, cars damaged

The fight started inside and spilled into the parking lot before the gunfire started, police said.

ATLANTA — A man is in critical condition after a shooting erupted during a fight in the parking lot of a popular Buckhead area night club early Sunday morning.

According to Atlanta Police Captain Jessica Bruce, the shooting happened at the Gold Room in the 2400 block of Piedmont Road, just before 2 a.m.

A fight involving about 20 people erupted inside the club, Bruce said.

Atlanta Police Officer Tasheena Brown said that security from the club told those involved in the fight to leave the premises and escorted them into the parking lot.

Brown said the fight continued in the parking lot. According to Bruce, at least two persons pulled out handguns and began shooting at each other.

During the gunfire, multiple vehicles in the parking lot were damaged, Brown said. When officers arrived officers found a man in the parking lot who had been shot multiple times in the abdomen. Brown said the officers provided first aid to the victim until EMS personnel arrived.

According to Capt. Bruce, the victim was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Bruce said that investigators had not been able to communicate with the shooting victim as of this point, and had not been able to determine whether or not he was directly involved in the fight or not.

She said that, during the gunfire, multiple vehicles in the parking lot were hit by gunfire. In addition, the front of the nightclub building was struck at least twice.

Investigators did not immediately have descriptions of the shooters, Bruce said. Brown said the investigation remains ongoing.
