DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — An 80-year-old woman who has been missing for three weeks has been found dead, the DeKalb County Police Department said in a heartbreaking update on Wednesday.
Authorities found Rosa Mae Dawson, also known as "Rose," dead on Wednesday morning. She had been missing since Nov. 13 and had dementia.
"Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers," the police department wrote in a social media post.
11Alive spoke with Rose's son, Ricky Dawson, who said the family is heartbroken and still searching for answers about what happened.
Family said Dawson was found a mile and a half from her home in someone's backyard, where they had previously searched.
Ricky previously said he hadn't heard from his mother since Wednesday, Nov. 13. The last anyone knew, she should've been at her home on Jenay Court.
"My aunt, who comes over and spends the day with her, came over, and the door was open, and she wasn't here. They couldn't find her. They went over to a couple of the neighbors' houses thinking she might've just walked over there, and she wasn't there," Ricky previously said.
He described his mom as fun-loving and caring.
"I just wish I could just hug her," Ricky previously said.
