CUMMING, Ga. — The Forsyth County Jail's Pups with Purpose training program is featuring two of their adoptable dogs in this week's 'Pet of the Week' segment. According to program staff, both Lizzy and Stella have received zero adoption applications.
The program led by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, dog trainer Scot Rucker, and the Forsyth County Animal Shelter allows shelter animals a better chance at finding their family.
Lizzy is a seven-year-old pitbull mixed breed that was at the Forsyth County Human Society for a year prior to coming to the county jail. Lizzy is extremely obedient and very smart.
Deputy Tiffany Foster with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office says Lizzy is easily trainable because of her food motivation.
"She has responded to training very quick and has come such a long way. She has been one of the strongest dogs in the program," says Foster.
Stella is a one-year-old husky mixed breed that has just completed basic training in the 'Pups with Purpose' program. Jail staff says is extremely smart and likes to chat.
Both Lizzy and Stella are available for free as apart of being featured as pets of the week. In your application, make sure you let staff know that you saw the dogs here and all adoption fees will be waived.
The Pups with Purpose program gives carefully selected inmates an opportunity to give back to society by providing foster care and basic obedience training to homeless, unwanted animals while enhancing the inmate's social and vocational skills. Each animal has one primary inmate trainer and at least one secondary inmate trainer who will prepare their dog to be a better canine citizen for adoption.
All animals adopted through the program receive five additional weeks of free obedience training through Rucker Dog training.
