ATLANTA — Who let the dogs out? In East Atlanta Village, at least, we did. The popular pet & family-friendly festival, Dogtoberfest, is back for its seventh year. This famous Atlanta staple features local grub for both two-legged and four-legged attendees, craft vendors and of course, the city’s most popular Halloween dog costume contest.
Lauren Janis, East Atlanta resident and founder of Big Daddy Biscuits, first launched the festival back in 2013 as a non-profit to help encourage and celebrate pet ownership in the community.
“I’ve loved watching the festival grow into what it is now – an annual event that so many Atlantans look forward to attending with their kids, friends and dogs,” says Janis.
Other local pet organizations will be joining the festivities as well, such as local animal rescue, The W-Underdogs, who was the recipient of the festival’s grant last year, will be returning. As well as the new EAV pet group, the Ruff Runners.
According to reports, over a thousand people attended last year’s event with this year’s expected to nearly double that. Entry for the family-friendly festival is free for people and $5 per dog. Attendees can expect to enjoy safe animal play spaces, ample pet vendors, raffle prizes, and of course, the Halloween costume contest. Celebrity judges will also be on-hand, including dog trainer and TV star, Victoria Stillwell.
The festival will take place on October 20, 2019, at the East Atlanta Village Farmers Market located at 559 Flat Shoals Ave SE, Atlanta, Ga., 30316.
