EAST POINT, Ga. — The City of East Point has appointed a new interim city manager following the firing of former city manager Deron King in 2023.
Howard Brown Jr. will now assume the role. He's held the same position in Oklahoma, Florida, and California.
Brown has also been a planning director for two other Georgia municipalities, where he was instrumental in pioneering programs such as one of the state's first Tax Allocation Districts and community redevelopment tax incentive programs.
The city didn't give a specific reason for the firing of the former city manager, but it came after the city lost $1.2 million in a phishing scam.
East Point Officials said the city council is in the process of starting its national search to find a permanent city manager.
"Once finalized, the timeline and process will be shared with the community," the city said in a social media post.
