LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — The U.S. Census Bureau is looking for workers in Gwinnett County to help with the 2020 Census. Representatives with the U.S. Census help a job fair at the Gwinnett Justice Administration building on Wednesday, October 23rd. Staff accepted applications and answered questions about the U.S. Census.
According to the agency, most of the job openings are for Census takers, but clerical positions are also available in areas where there are local offices. There are also a few supervisory and recruiting outreach positions.
In Gwinnett County, Census taker positions pay $20 per hour for Census takers, plus reimbursement for work-related mileage and expenses.
If you are interested in a position with the bureau, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a valid Social Security number
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Have a valid email address
- Complete an application and answer assessment questions
- Be registered with the Selective Service System (the draft) or have a qualifying exemption if you're a man born after Dec. 31, 1959
- Pass a Census-performed criminal background check and a review of criminal records, including fingerprinting
- Be available to work flexible hours, including days, evenings and weekends
Representatives with the Census say applicants should expect to hear back from them between January and April. The Census officially kicks off April 1.
