Pedestrian struck, killed by train in northwest Atlanta, police say

Here's what we know.

ATLANTA — A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a train Monday morning in northwest Atlanta, police confirmed.

It happened around noon on the railroad tracks near Howard Street and Blayton Circle in the Dixie Hills neighborhood, according to a statement from CSX.

Police did not give any information about what led up to the incident or about the victim.

"CSX extends its deepest sympathies to those impacted by this incident. This is an unfortunate reminder of the very real dangers of trespassing on railroad property. CSX appreciates the swift action of local first responders," the statement read in part.

This marks the second incident on the same day where a person was hit by a train in metro Atlanta. Two people were left injured after being hit by a train in Cobb County early Monday morning.
