Resources for victims impacted by strong storms, tornado in Rockdale County

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — The community around Conyers is picking up the pieces after a confirmed EF-2 tornado tore through the area early Wednesday morning.

The storm brought down trees that crushed cars and homes and brought down power lines, shutting off power to many residents, primarily in Rockdale County.

As the path to recovery begins, the Red Cross is working to help residents through their next steps and provide additional recovery resources.

All Red Cross disaster assistance is free and made possible through the generosity of the community. People in need of emergency assistance are asked to call 1-800 Red Cross (1-800-733-2767).

Shelter locations for storm victims in Rockdale County

Rockdale County Emergency Management Agency has set up a shelter for residents in need who were affected by the severe storms. Residents in need of shelter can go to:

  • First United Methodist Church, located at 921 North Main Street NW in Conyers

Food for residents affected by storms

According to the Rockdale County Emergency Management Agency, the Salvation Army will be feeding residents at Fire Station 6 on Hust Road in Conyers. For more information, please call 770-278-8300.

How to help

Folks can donate by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. To volunteer, visit redcross.org and submit and application.

  • Let friends and family know you’re safe 
  • If evacuated, return only when authorities say it is safe to do so 
  • Continue listening to local news or a NOAA Weather Radio for updated information and instructions 
  • Stay out of damaged buildings 
  • Watch out for fallen power lines or broken gas lines and report them to the local utility company immediately.
