TPA sees damage after closing for Hurricane Milton

The airport closed on Tuesday morning ahead of the storm and will reopen after staff assesses and cleans up the damage.

TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa International Airport is facing flooding and debris is scattered throughout the area after Hurricane Milton ripped through Florida's Gulf Coast.

Staff are assessing and cleaning up as the airport still remains closed, according to an X post.

Airport officials said they are working toward announcing a reopening later Thursday.

Pictures show one of the jet bridges damaged and the runways underwater. What looks like a utility box was also knocked down from the strong winds

Milton made landfall in Siesta Key as a Category 3 storm on Wednesday night and left parts of Tampa Bay inundated with flooding and damage.
