DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A teen boy was found shot and killed in the woods in DeKalb County Thursday morning, according to the police department.
Authorities said they responded to a person shot call at the 1000 block of North Hairston Road shortly before 9:30 a.m. The location is near the Reserve at Hairston Lake Apartments and not far from Stone Mountain.
When officers arrived, the police department said that they found the boy, who was in his late teens, dead in a wooded area. Authorities added they will investigate the teen's death as a homicide.
The DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office identified the teen as 17-year-old James Smith.
11Alive spoke with a neighbor who said the gun violence needs to end.
"It’s very scary and a shame that we can’t walk out and do daily things today with all the shooting going on," Monica McNeal said. "Put the guns down because it’s too much, too many of us leaving here today, especially our teenagers. 'Please put the guns down in Jesus name, Amen.'”
In a separate shooting, a 19-year-old was found dead at the 5800 block of Par Three Court near Stonecrest just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
DeKalb County Police are still investigating both shootings.
