Work zone on I-20 causing significant delays Tuesday morning | How to get around

This is what we know.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Drivers are experiencing significant delays on Interstate 20 Westbound this morning due to ongoing construction past Panola Road in DeKalb County.

According to 11Alive Traffic Expert Crash Clark, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) had planned to clear the construction by 5 a.m., but equipment remains on-site, causing traffic to back up.

  • Hotspot: I-20 Westbound past Panola Road. Trip time increased from 35 minutes to 72 minutes from Highway 138 to the Perimeter.
  • Alternate route: Avoid I-20 Westbound; use Covington Highway (Highway 278).

Clark has been monitoring the situation since 4:30 a.m.

"Get to Covington Highway," Clark said. Don't even think about the I-20 right now. It is an absolute miserable trip time of over one hour."
