ATLANTA — Georgia's early voting period will come to an end Friday evening, with more than half the active voters in the state having already turned out ahead of Election Day.
As the final day of early voting dawned, the state election data hub showed that turnout was a hair shy of 3.7 million voters so far -- just more than 51% of the state's 7.2 million active voters.

A voter in Georgia is considered "active" if they've voted in the last five years or otherwise had some kind of contact with the election system. There are 8.2 million total registered voters, about 1 million of whom are considered "inactive."
An independent Georgia election data site, Georgia Votes, has indicated a high number -- more than 700,000 -- of early voters so far did not vote in Georgia in 2020. It's unclear how many of them are previously "inactive" voters who have, in a sense, been "activated" with a vote in the 2024 election.
In 2020, Georgia saw just shy of 5 million total votes in the presidential race. There would need to be about 1.3 million voters turning out on Election Day next Tuesday to surpass total turnout in 2024.
