Get ready to return to the polls Georgians, these races are heading to a runoff

Here, candidates for offices must not only get the most votes but receive more than 50% of the vote to be declared the winner.

ATLANTA — Election Day has come and gone for most of us in Georgia, but a few still have one last trip to the polls before the year ends.

Why is Georgia this way? Here, candidates must not only get the most votes, but must cross the 50% + 1 vote threshold to be declared the winner. If that doesn't happen, the top two candidates square off again in a runoff. In most states, the candidate with a plurality of votes is declared the winner.

Early voting for this year's runoff election will begin no later than Nov. 27, according to state officials. The actual runoff election day will be on Dec. 3.
