Georgia has become a pivotal battleground state for former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris as their race for the White House continues. Both campaigns have made numerous visits across the state to win.

The deadline to register to vote to make your voice heard in Georgia is Oct. 7 -- with early voting beginning on Oct. 15.

Below is a breakdown of how to register:

Make sure you're eligible

According to the Georgia Secretary of State's Office, the first step to register is to first ensure you're eligible.

To register to vote in The Peach State, you must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be a legal resident of the county
  • Be at least 17 1/2 years of age to register and 18 years of age to vote
  • Not be serving a sentence for conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude
  • Have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge

If you recently moved from a different state and already have a new driver's license, go ahead and check your registration status. It's possible that you agreed to register to vote when filing the paperwork for that new identification. In addition, if you sign up for a library card, you can also register to vote that way.

Submit a voter registration application

Register online

One of the main ways to register is online. According to the Georgia Secretary of State's Office, you need either a valid state driver's license with a signature on file with the Department of Drivers Services (DDS) or a DDS-issued identification card with a signature on file.

When you register, make sure to fill in all the required fields on the application, which are identified by an asterisk. You are not officially registered to vote until the application is approved.

Register by mail

You can also register by mail by filling out a form and sending it to the Secretary of State's Office at 802 West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. SE Atlanta, Georgia 30334-1505.

Register in person

You can also register at your county's registrar's office or election office.

Bonus ways to register

  • Signing up for a library card
  • Getting a driver's license
    • If you move within the state, you need to tell your county's registrar's office or submit a new voter registration application form.

Check your precinct card

After registering for the vote and being approved, the Secretary of State's Office will send a precinct card to the county where you live. The county will then send it directly to you.

The card lets you know where you need to go to vote, but it is important to note that you don't actually need to bring the card to cast your ballot.

Contact your local county registration office if you have not received this card within three to four weeks of submitting your application so you can either request a new card or inquire about the status of your application.

You can also check your status by visiting the Secretary of State's My Voter Page

Vote

Once you're registered, all you need to do now is make your voice heard by going out to vote!

When you go in person, make sure to bring a valid voter ID, such as a driver's license, passport, or voter identification card
