When do polls close in Atlanta? | Local primary elections

Peach State voters must still decide primaries in critical races.

ATLANTA — Georgians are headed to the polls Tuesday to cast votes in their local primary elections.

While the presidential primary in Georgia passed without much fanfare, Peach State voters must still decide primaries in critical races. 

They include primaries for U.S. Congress, seats in the Georgia Senate and Georgia House of Representatives, and local races for everything from education board seats to tax commissioner.

In many cases, significant jobs like judgeships or county offices don't have both parties nominating candidates -- meaning whoever wins the primary for the party that is nominating candidates wins the election outright. 

If you're headed out to vote, here are the times you can do so:

What times do polls open and close on Primary Day in Georgia?

They opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. This is a statewide window and not subject to county-by-county decisions.

And as always, remember that you only have to be in line by 7 p.m. As long as you're in line before polls close, election workers have to let you cast your vote.
