First Lady Dr. Jill Biden launches 'Biden for Women' at campaign stop in Atlanta

The First Lady arrived on Mar. 1, the first day of Women's History Month.

ATLANTA — First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visited Atlanta Friday, on the first day of  Women's History Month, in an attempt to reach women voters in Georgia and garner support for her husband's re-election campaign.

This is her second visit in recent months, but today, she was here on the campaign trail, pleading to women voters in Georgia to support the Biden-Harris ticket.  At the campaign event, Biden launched 'Women for Biden, a national organizing program to reach and encourage women across the country to reelect President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris.

Several women were in attendance, offering their support.

Atlanta, a release said, is the first stop of a battleground states tour where she will meet with other women to discuss the election and what role they could play in the election.

“Because four years ago, Georgia, you put us in the White House,” Dr. Biden said.

Reproductive and voting rights were key points in her message, highlighting how recent changes to the law have impacted women.

“We are the first generation in half a century to give our daughters a country with fewer rights than we had - book bans, gutted voting laws, court decisions that stripped away our most basic freedoms,” the First Lady said.

Political analyst Rashmi Singh says equal pay, affordable childcare and housing are top of mind for women in Georgia, as well as healthcare.

“Another issue that is unique to Georgia women is healthcare, specifically as we know the rate of maternal fatality and infant mortality is very, very high,” Singh said.

“And we know the access to healthcare in rural areas is an issue specific to Georgia women,” he continued.

Republican State Representative Mesha Mainor says K-12 education, safety, quality of life, career options and healthcare is what women need in the state.  In a statement, she says regardless of political party, more progress needs to be made to support victims of domestic violence, sexual assault while at the same time giving support to women in business.

Dr. Biden shared what she says is a sheer contrast in how President Biden and former President Trump treat women.

“He mocks women’s bodies, disrespects our accomplishments and brags about assault. Cruel abortion bans taking away the right of women to make their owns heath decisions,” she said of Trump. “We must re-elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris!”
