Trump supporters, protesters stand together outside of Atlanta rally

Thousands of supporters couldn't get inside the rally. So, they had no choice but to stand with the protesters.

ATLANTA — Thousands of former President Trump supporters weren't able to get inside a rally at the Georgia State Convocation Center.

Supporters were then pushed outside where a group of about a dozen unintimidated protesters stood.

Debbie Cox said she drove in from Canton. She sat next to the demonstration, as it was right in front of the screen where supporters could watch the rally outside. Cox said she believes support in Georgia has grown this presidential election.

"Georgia's going red," Cox said.

Atlanta resident Nate Kanuf said he helped lead the protest. He said he believes most of Trump's supporters came from out of town, versus the City of Atlanta.

"Donald Trump's agenda is an agenda of racism, of discrimination, of violence, of war. And it has no place here," Kanuf said.

Taylor Cook said the group was protesting for reproductive rights and a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.

"We stand for Palestine and a free Palestine," Cook said. "We're here to stand for queer or LGBTQ-plus rights. We're here for an end to student loans and healthcare."

Tevin Boss traveled from Houston, Texas, to support Trump. He felt the protesters should have been separated from the supporters. He stood strong on the issues that motivated him to visit.

"Immigration, that's a big issue. We got basically a full-on invasion happening at the border," Boss continued. "When you want to talk about economics as well."

The economy was on the minds of people on both sides.

"People are seeing bills, in terms of groceries, going up. They're seeing property taxes go up. They're seeing cost of living going up. They're seeing everything go up and up and up, but the pay for working people isn't going up to match that," Kanuf said. "Corporate profit is going up."

It was an afternoon of differing political policies, with the same passion behind their views.

Despite the combination, supporters and protesters remained mostly peaceful outside except a few exchanges of words.

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to return to Georgia again Friday in Savannah.
