GEORGIA, — Posts have been circulating online since the beginning of October claiming that former President Jimmy Carter had cast his vote in the 2024 election, but that's quite literally impossible.
THE QUESTION
Has Jimmy Carter voted in the 2024 election?
THE SOURCES
- The Carter Center
- Secretary of State's Office
THE ANSWER
This claim is false.
WHAT WE FOUND
According to the Georgia Secretary of State’s 2024 election calendar, absentee ballots in the state were not scheduled to be mailed until Oct. 7. Additionally, early in-person voting didn’t begin until Oct. 15, making it impossible for Carter to cast his vote by Oct. 4, as the social media post claims.
Carter, who celebrated his 100th birthday on Oct. 1 in Plains, Georgia, remains in hospice care. His family has confirmed that he plans to vote for Harris in the upcoming election on Nov. 5.
The Carter Center also confirmed Wednesday that he has not yet cast his vote but intends to do so by mail in the coming weeks.
"We’ll let you know when he does," the center said in part.
