PARIS, France — If there's any player you want to beat, it's really gotta be this guy.

The USA men's volleyball team is in action on Saturday at the 2024 Paris Olympics, playing Argentina. It's the first group game for the American men, who will be out to get their first medal since a bronze in Rio in 2016.

But first they'll have to win against a Loser.

That would be Agustín Loser, a middle blocker for Argentina.

Who is Agustín Loser?

As you might imagine, his name isn't actually pronounced like the opposite of winner (it's more like loh-sare, you can listen to about the 15-second mark of this video.)

And, it turns out, Loser is actually quite a winner!

He was part of the Argentina team that won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics -- a team that, by the way, in their group match three years ago blanked the United States 3-0.

The 26-year-old also has an impressive medal record to his name, with several gold medals from competitions such as the South American Championships (2023) and U-23 World Championships (2017).

At the 2021 South American Championships, where Argentina won the silver medal, Loser was named the best middle blocker of the tournament. Loser also has a silver medal from the 2019 South American Championship.

As far as the USA vs. Argentina match on Saturday, the American men drew first blood with a 25-20 win in the first set.
