Atlanta gears up for 2024 Olympics with citywide opening ceremony watch parties

Here are some events happening on Friday.

ATLANTA — As the 2024 Olympics kick off in Paris, Atlanta is gearing up to celebrate with watch parties across the city for the opening ceremonies on Friday. 

From the nostalgic 90s-themed gatherings at Phipps Plaza and Citizens Market to community events at The Battery Atlanta and Midtown Atlanta, fans will have plenty of options to join in the excitement.

  • Phipps Plaza's The Green: This pop-up event starts at 1 p.m. on July 26. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best 90s or Atlanta Olympics attire. The ceremony will be broadcast on an outdoor big screen, and a DJ will play 90s hits at Citizens Market Food Hall. More info here. 

  • The Battery Atlanta: The Battery Atlanta is hosting a Summer Games watch event on July 26. This event will feature the opening ceremony broadcast, along with various activities and entertainment options for attendees. For more details, visit The Battery Atlanta's event page.

  • Midtown Atlanta: A watch party will be held at Midtown Atlanta, where the opening ceremony will be shown on a large screen. Attendees can enjoy the event with fellow sports enthusiasts. More information can be found on Midtown Atlanta's event page.

  • 11Alive Coverage: For those preferring a home gathering, 11Alive - NBC will start its coverage at 12 p.m. ET with a preview show, followed by the official opening ceremony at 1:30 p.m. ET. Peacock will also stream the event live, offering multiple subscription options (NBC).
