PARIS, France — A diver from Georgia booked his place Wednesday in a diving final at the Paris Olympics.

Carson Tyler, a native of storm-struck Moultrie who went to Colquitt County High, finished as one of the 12 best divers to qualify for the final in the 3m springboard event.

The 20-year-old, who now competes at Indiana University, recorded a total score of 438.00 to finish seventh in the semifinal session.

The final will be held tomorrow, Thursday August 8, at 9 a.m. ET (3 p.m. local time in Paris).

Tyler is a two-time GHSA Station Champion and diving state record holder. This is his first time qualifying for the Olympics.

He won the 10m Team USA Trials event and will compete in that later in the Olympics as well, making him as the first American man to qualify for both individual diving events since Mark Ruiz in 2000.

At Indiana, he was the 2024 national champion for 3m springboard, and he's a back-to-back (2023-24) national champion in the 10m event.

The 10m platform preliminary round is scheduled for Friday, August 9 at 4 a.m. ET (10 a.m. Paris time) -- setting up a busy few days for south Georgia's Tyler.
