PARIS, France — The 2024 Summer Olympics are solidly into their first week, already providing remarkable moments and highlights with the Paris scenery as an unforgettable backdrop.

It's the kind of spectacular event you hope will never end -- but end it must. The good news is we've still got a ways to go.

There's still so much to unpack from the Paris Games -- we haven't even started track. Here's a brief overview of the timeline left to go, as of Wednesday July 31.

When do the Olympics end?

The 2024 Paris Olympics end on August 11. The Closing Ceremony will be at 2 p.m. ET that day.

In a break from recent Olympics, there's actually a pretty busy final day.

Medals will go out on August 11 before the closing  ceremony in events including women's basketball -- the final event of the Paris Games -- men's water polo, women's track cycling, men's handball, men's track cycling, women's volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and pentathlon.

Right up to the end, the Paris Olympics will keep packing in the action.

Other milestones

  • Gymnastics: Ends with several individual apparatus finals on Monday, August 5; they include women's balance beam and floor exercise, and men's parallel bars and horizontal bars.
  • Swimming: Ends with four finals on Sunday, August 4; they include women's 50m freestyle and 4x100m medley relay, and men's 1500m freestyle and 4x100m medley relay.
