Tech's defense gives up huge first half in loss to Duke

Georgia Tech's losing streak extends to four games after an 18-point loss to the Blue Devils on the road.

ATLANTA — For the second-consecutive week, the Yellow Jackets tallied 379 yards of total offense, but their defense failed to stop Duke's offensive efficiency, allowing 38 first-half points.

Duke running back Deon Jackson carried the ball 20 times rushing for 69 yards and two touchdowns in the Blue Devil's win.

Tech had a more productive day on the ground behind Jordan Mason's 18 carries for 106 yards - a career high for the sophomore running back.

Despite the loss, head coach Geoff Collins said his team is constantly making strides to improve as the season progresses.

"Everything is improving," he said. "I hate that the scoreboard doesn't show it, I hate that the record book doesn't show it, but every single phase of this football program has improved."

Georgia Tech's roster is saturated with underclassmen, so it's obvious this is a rebuilding year. A positive is that Tech opened and closed the first half with 75-yard touchdown drives.

"I believe in these young men that I'm blessed to coach. It's our job as coaches to increase the margin of error with our daily execution and competitiveness of getting better every day and, hopefully, our margin of error grows and it's not so small.

"But the guys in that locker room amaze me how they come to work every single day, and it is going to pay off for us sooner rather than later."

Georgia Tech heads south to face Miami next Saturday at noon.
