ATLANTA — Former World No. 1 singles and doubles star Venus Williams will compete against 2017 U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens in the Atlanta Open this summer.
The Atlanta Open announced on Tuesday that Williams and Stephens will play in the Sunday Showdown on July 21 at 7 p.m. ET.
The two former Grand Slam champions will face off in a three-set singles match. Atlanta Open officials added in a news release that other fun surprises are also planned for the evening.
“We are proud to announce that Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens will play in the final Sunday Showdown delivered by UPS,” Atlanta Open Tournament Director Peter Lebedevs said. “Venus and Sloane are two beloved champions of our sport, and they will surely put on a great show for Atlanta tennis fans.”
Atlanta Open officials previously announced former champions John Isner and Andy Roddick will compete against the Bryan brothers, Mike and Bob Bryan, in the Champions Challenge doubles match on Monday, July 22, at 7 p.m. ET.
