The main security checkpoint at Hartsfield-Jackson showed a wait time of five minutes early Wednesday morning, but officials caution that these conditions could change rapidly. With 4 million passengers anticipated at Atlanta’s airport alone during the holiday period, travelers are advised to plan ahead.
The day before Thanksgiving is typically among the busiest travel days of the year, and the TSA predicts record-breaking activity. Nationally, 18 million Americans are expected to travel this week, either by air or road. The busiest day for flights is forecast to be Sunday when over 3 million people will take to the skies.
However, smooth journeys are not guaranteed. As of this morning, 13 flight delays and two cancellations have already been reported at Hartsfield-Jackson, according to FlightAware. The weather may also factor into disruptions, with conditions across various regions potentially affecting travel plans.
