ATLANTA — After 30 days of no measurable rainfall in Atlanta, the dry streak has finally ended!  A light shower over Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Wednesday morning led to a whopping.... trace amount of rain (less than 0.01").

Climate data and records are kept based on the airport's weather station. The last time rain was measured in the rain gauge was 0.02" on September 29. While trace amounts of rain won't do much for vegetation or drought, it is enough to end the rain-free streak.

This month is still tied for the driest October on record. There has never been a dry month in Atlanta since record-keeping began in 1878.

Regarding rain-free streaks, 30 days ties for the 8th longest streak on record in Atlanta. The city's longest dry streak was 43 days long, spanning late October and much of November 2016.

This four-week dry spell follows an abnormally wet September. Because of flooding rains in September and July, Atlanta is still in a 14" surplus for the year compared to "normal."

When will it rain again?

A few showers are possible throughout the day, but rain will be spotty at best. While a few drops may fall, the totals will likely be unimpressive again.

The seven-day forecast includes a few opportunities for showers, but unfortunately, there is no widespread, good chance for rain anytime soon.
