ATLANTA — Elon Musk sent 72 Starlinks to Georgia, the state emergency management agency reported over the weekend, as officials continue to work to restore connectivity after Hurricane Helene.

Recovery efforts after Helen are still ongoing in parts of south and eastern Georgia. As of Sunday, about 95% of power has been restored in the Peach State after the storm brought a wide swath of destruction from Valdosta to Augusta before moving on to the Carolinas, which were also devastated.

Gov. Brian Kemp last week described it as a like a "230, 240 mile tornado went through our state," killing more than 30 people. Nearly 50 counties in Georgia have been placed under a federal disaster declaration.

Amid the effort to pick up the pieces from Helene, on Saturday the Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security (GEMA) said it had received 72 Starlinks that will "help restore critical internet connectivity for residents affected by Hurricane Helene."

Gov. Brian Kemp wrote: "Thank you, @elonmusk, for providing these Starlinks to help us restore connectivity for first responders and Georgia families impacted by Hurricane Helene."

Musk, the X owner, responded himself to the GEMA post, saying: "You’re most welcome."
