Last 7 p.m. sunset in Atlanta tonight | When the later sunsets return

As winter nears, the sun is setting earlier and daylight is getting shorter.

ATLANTA — Winter doesn't officially begin until December 21, but as fall takes hold, the nights are getting colder and daylight is getting shorter.  

According to the National Weather Service, Friday, October 18, marks our last 7 p.m. sunset in Atlanta. The sun will set at 6:59 p.m. Saturday, October 19, but we'll still enjoy plenty of sunshine - over 11 hours of daylight.

By the end of Daylight Saving Time on November 3, the sunset falls to 5:43 p.m. in Atlanta. The earliest sunsets of the year come at the end of November and early December, when day turns to night at 5:29 p.m.

Sunsets return to 6 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As clocks spring forward and Daylight Saving Time begins on March 9, the sunset is at 7:41 p.m.
