ATLANTA — After a day to dry out, more heavy rain moves in toward the end of the day on Friday and throughout the overnight into the morning hours on Saturday.
How Much Rain
Much of north Georgia will receive two to four inches of additional rainfall, with some localized areas receiving more from this event. This could worsen flood situations in some spots with our already saturated ground.
Timeline: When To Expect The Heaviest Rain
For late Friday afternoon, shower activity will start to move in for some Georgia counties along the Alabama border.
By 9 p.m., heavy rain activity starts to move into parts of the Atlanta metro, and these heavier showers will continue to build in overnight.
Some of the heaviest, widespread rain we will get for Friday into Saturday will move in around midnight into early Saturday morning.
The heavier, widespread rainfall continues for Saturday at 3 a.m. At this time, some spots in northwest Georgia will start to see an end of the heaviest rain with just a few lingering light to moderate showers.
Heavy rain starts to move out of the Atlanta metro around 7 a.m. on Saturday, with a few light to moderate showers still possible for late morning and into the early afternoon.
Within some of the really heavy rain, we may also have a strong storm or two, with damaging wind being the main threat. It is a level two out of five for the Atlanta area, or a slight risk. A level one out of five for far north Georgia, or a marginal risk. This is the severe outlook that runs through Saturday morning at 7 a.m.
Drier conditions move into the end of the weekend and into early next week with not too much of a cooldown. Lows will be in the 30s to 40s, and highs in the 60s.
