ATLANTA — Severe weather is expected once again in most of Georgia at the end of the week, with the threat of heavy rain and damaging winds moving in Friday afternoon. Several school districts are preparing for inclement weather by adjusting school schedules on Jan. 12.
District leaders said they will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional information if circumstances change.
Here is a list of school systems that will be closed on Friday:
Schools operating on remote learning for Jan. 12:
Schools releasing early on Jan. 12:
- Newton County Schools
- Elementary and Newton County STEAM Academy students will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m.
- High School students will be released at 12:15 p.m.
- Middle school students will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m.
No delays or cancellations (this list is not exhaustive, only including districts that have made specific announcements)
- Lamar County Schools
- City Schools of Decatur (all afterschool activities canceled)
- Cobb County Schools (monitoring)
- Fulton County Schools (says any updates or changes will be posted)
- DeKalb County School District (extracurricular and athletic activities canceled)
- Marietta City Schools
- Heard County Schools
