HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A kayaker is alive to learn an important lesson about flooding safety after a gripping rescue by Hall County firefighters on Thursday.
11Alive's Ryan Kruger captured the rescue on camera as firefighters carefully walked a narrow ladder over the West Fork Little River in Hall County. Their goal was to reach a kayaker, who got caught in rising currents so high that he was forced to take refuge in a tree and wait for help.
The rescue comes amid flash floods and severe storms that have pushed over the state and caused the entire region to be inundated in water. In many cases, local creeks and rivers have been the low point that these waters have run to - resulting in rising levels and dangerous currents.
Authorities haven't released the rescued person's name or provided any indication of why the kayaker decided to take to the river on a particularly dangerous day.
