ATLANTA — 11Alive's Weather Impact Team has issued an 11Alive Weather Impact Alert day for this afternoon.  A heat advisory will be in effect from 11am to 8pm.  The advisory is for areas south and east of the city of Atlanta.

Heat index values this high would make some people more susceptible to heat illness like heat exhaustion or heat stroke.  Be sure do drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated.  Also take breaks from the heat and find a way to cool down to give your body a break. 

When is the Weather Impact Alert day?

The Heat Advisory will be in effect today from 11am-8pm for counties east and south of the Atlanta metro area. Temperatures and humidity continue to climb through the week, and additional heat alerts may be issued.  Heat index values could reach 106 degrees.

What is the weather impact?

Air temperatures will climb into the low 90s by lunchtime, and highs will top out in the low to mid 90s. With humidity, it will feel much hotter.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illness or dehydration.

What do you need to do?

Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun or in an air conditioned room if possible, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precaution while outside - wear lightweight and loose clothing and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. To reduce risk during outdoor work, schedule frequent breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency - call 911!
