Nearly every cage empty for first time since LifeLine began operating in Fulton, DeKalb

Adoption fees also remain at just $20

ATLANTA — For the first time in its history, nearly every cage at the DeKalb and Fulton Lifeline Animal shelters are empty.

This is in large part due to the more than 1,000 volunteers who have offered to foster or adopt a four-legged friend while in quarantine.

On March 13, the organization said 1,105 pets were taken to new homes.

"Words cannot express our gratitude for the love and support our community has shown for shelter pets during this uncertain time," the organization said on social media.

Then, on April 1, they announced more than 1,300 are now in foster or forever homes.

"Instead of April Fools, we’re celebrating #AprilFeels, because nothing compares to the amazing feeling of walking through our shelter doors and seeing nearly every kennel open for the first time ever since LifeLine began operating @fultonanimalservices and @dekalbanimals," they wrote. "Thanks to our incredible community, over 1,300 animals have found foster or forever homes in the last two weeks."

The shelter remains in operation for new pets arriving and those still looking to adopt.

In an effort to help the new pets arriving at their shelters this month find homes, adoption fees have been reduced to $20 through the month of April.

"We are in awe of this incredible feat right now, but know that as animals continue to enter our shelters now and in the months to come, we will need your continued support."
